Extra Sprint O event at Shamrock 2009


Friday 29th June 2009

A Sprint O race will be held on the Ross Island map approximately 1km from the Shamorck event centre in Killarney Race Course.

The setting is beside the lakes of Killarney with the iconic Ross Castle in the background.

The map will be 1:5000, refreshed in 2009.

There will be 1 course between 2-3km long. (there may or may not be an extra twist thrown in !!!!)

Race Start is 8pm with a Mass Start:  Prizes for the first Men and Women.

From 5pm non competitive runs will be available for those who don't want to the head to head racing option......

New Gear Contract

Here is the draft design for the new orienteering Gear Contract that we are in the process of negotiating with Trimtex.
The contract will run for 3 years, and provide access to top of the range gear at a substantial discount.

Senior Team Selection Criteria 2009

WOC and World Cup 2009 Selection Policy The Irish Team selection policy for the world Orienteering Championships 2009 to be held in  Miskolc, Hungary from 16th to 23rd August, is as follows; - www.woc2009.hu    *1.Number of Competitors:* Men: A minimum of 5 men will be selected, with a maximum of 6 being selected. Women: Up to 3 women will be selected.   *2.Selection Races:* The selection for WOC 2009 will be based upon performances at the following races. a.Irish Orienteering Championships 2009. Men: There will be three [3] automatic places available for men based upon the results during these races. The selection will be as follows; First man in the Medium distance is automatically selected. First man in the classic is automatically selected. Best man with combined results of both the classic and medium races is automatically selected. Women: There will be two [2] automatic places available for women based upon the results of these races. First woman in the Medium distance is automatically selected. First woman in the classic is automatically selected.  b.The following races will be considered; The performances at the following races will be considered when completing the makeup of the mens and womens team for WOC 2009.  None of these races are mandatory, but to be considered for selection athletes must have competed in at least 2 races of the list below.  - Spring Cup 2009, Denmark, 27-29 March 2009, www.springcup.dk  - JK 2009, UK 10-13 April 2009. www.jk2009.org.uk  - Shamrock O-ringen, Killarney , 30 May - 1 June 2009, www.corko.net/shamrock  - World Cup Events from 2008 will be considered.  - Any other World Ranking event in 2008/2009 will be considered.  *3. Selection:*  Selection will be made in early June 2009 to allow competitors adequate time to prepare and train in the relevant terrain etc. In the event of there being a number of competitors in contention for the final selection places a head to head race will be held with the first past the post being selected. This is likely to be during the Shamrock O-Ringen in June.  *4. World Cup Selection:* Selection for world cup races will be on known form over the past year at world ranking events.
